THE VALUE OF POSTURAL AWARENESS

Gravity constantly challenges us throughout our lives. Consequently, how we relate to it also constantly determines exactly where and how much compression and tension concentrate in our bodies.

The moment we start to lean away from the vertical downward pull of gravity, our bones offload their force onto muscles und other structures that become tensed and compressed, restricting their space, thereby compromising their function. This happens to all of us to some degree, but particularly when we get older and lead a more sedentary lifestyle = greater compression and tension throughout the body = greater restriction of function = lesser quality of living.

So how to shift this?

By adjusting your alignment in such a way to channel the effects of gravity more through your body, and less into it. Postural principles that are inherent to Qi Gong practice enable you to accomplish this.

Depending on the extant to which and amount of time your body has remained ‘offline’, this contributes to the extant of effort necessary to undo those unfavourable postural habits and replace them with favourable ones. Consequently, your bones take the brunt of the load of the force of your mass, allowing everything else attached to your bones to free up, and regain and strengthen those functions.
